That care for people, homes, and small-town business didn’t come from nowhere. Long before Dara opened her own store, she was shaped by another small-town shop: her grandmother’s store in Barrhead, called The Lunnford General Store.
The Lunnford General Store
Dara’s grandmother, Rita Johnson owned and operated the Lunnford General Store for 42 years, located 11 kilometers southeast of Barrhead.
Lunnford became much more than just a place to shop. People relied on it, returned to it, and remembered the care they felt when they walked through the door. That stayed with Dara, shaping her understanding of what a store could be: useful, personal, and deeply connected to its community.
When Dara opened Dara’s, she carried that influence with her, while creating something of her own.
Experience
Dara Choy, B.Ed., C.I.D., is a certified interior decorator trained at the University of Alberta, where she completed her studies with distinction and specialized in construction and renovation.
Dara’s design experience began in 2004, giving her more than two decades of experience helping clients plan, build, renovate, furnish, and finish their homes. Her work can start as early as the blueprint stage and continue through to the final details that make a space feel complete.
Through in-store and at-home consultations, Dara helps clients make confident decisions about finishes, furniture, window coverings, fabrics, colours, lighting, cabinetry, countertops, plumbing fixtures, exterior finishes, and more.
